UIF Maternity Benefits status check can be done from the ufilling portal. You can claim for a maximum of 121 consecutive days (four (4) months). If you have been contributing to UIF for the last four years, you are entitled to four (4) months of maternity leave. For every six (6) months worked, you can claim one (1) month of UIF maternity benefits from the Department of Labour.

They use the last four (4) years of your employment record, to calculate the amount of credit days you have. You can only claim for the time you are actually on maternity leave i.e. if you take two months of maternity leave, you can only claim two months of UIF maternity benefits.The Department does on occasion pay the entire four (4) months in one or two payments

  • Then proceed to enter your UIF Reference Number

  • In the email, you should provide your name, Identification, and your UIF registration number.
You can also claim UIF after a child is born. You must also give evidence of your pregnancy. This is usually the maternity certificate from your doctor or midwife (MATB1). If you claim Maternity Allowance after your baby is born, you should provide the birth certificate.
