Continuation and Improvement of R350 Grant

In a recent State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa affirmed the continuation and enhancement of the R350 grant. This grant, initiated during the Covid-19 pandemic, remains available to provide ongoing social relief, with improvements in its structure.

Changes in the Application Process

Under the Social Assistance Act, the SRD grant is no longer governed by the State of Disaster Act, signaling changes in the application process. While initially set to end in March 2023, the grant has been extended to March 2024, with a significant allocation of R44 billion to support 10.5 million beneficiaries monthly.

Eligibility Criteria for R350 Grant

To qualify for the R350 SRD grant, applicants must meet specific criteria, including unemployment, South African citizenship, age between 18 and 59, and residence within South Africa. Additionally, applicants should not be receiving other social grants or residing in government-subsidized institutions.
